There are many Techniques that I use to create the base drawing I suppose the most widely used is in the illustration that I have tried to portray in the above drawing. Subjects are usually drawn or painted against a white background to highlight them.

I tend to use a combination of draughting and drawing in the preliminary stages of a drawing using Photographic and visual material to ascertain angles and perspective.

I then start to block in the shadows and keep going over the drawing and shading areas as I go.

Lifting out areas of highlights with a putty rubber until the desired level of shading is obtained.

The pencils that I use for drawing vary from H to 5B. I that using this combination gives me consistent results that are very predictable and the end product is consistent with other drawings that I have done. Working with pencils my artworks are carefully planned, prepared and finished to a high standard of detail to capture the sense of action, speed, excitement and power in all aspects of the railway sphere.

Paints are usually executed in Acrylic or Cell paint as this gives me the finish that I like, also painting on various surfaces enabling me to add texture to some works of art.

My artworks have been available as open edition black and white prints and limited edition black and white and colour prints over the last 10 years.

Along with an enthusiasm for producing paintings and drawings which are railway / railroad orientated I also paint other subjects, including aviation, a number of which have been produced as prints, heavy road transportation and vehicle subjects.
