I am always happy to consider commissioned work and particularly enjoy the challenge of recreating a transportation subject of the past. Producing an image that portrays locomotives, rolling stock and places that no longer exist requires extensive research and I have built up a considerable library of books and other resources over the last 35 years. Each commissioned artwork is fully researched to provide the client with the best possible factual illustration / drawing or painting that is technically correct .

To Help, Here are some frequently asked questions:

Q. Are they painted or drawn ?

R. Most of the examples of my illustrations are either pencil or colored pencil, this I have found to be by far the best medium to use for showing the fine details that are so characteristic of my style of drawing. if you would like to discuss with me an illustration or painting in a different medium I would be happy to discuss your ideas or wishes.

Q. How long does it take ?

R. The high I detail that I produce in my illustrations are incredibly time consuming and often taking in excess of 50 hours for each illustration. This of course would be for larger artworks but even smaller artworks take in excess of 25 hours. Please allow at least four to six weeks for delivery.

Q. Can you frame the picture / illustration for me ?

R. I can have the picture framed and mounted how you wish. My prices include a basic nice frame and mount . In most cases for the pencil illustration I mount the picture in black mount lined in silver with a silver or pewter aluminum frame.

Q. Do I work from photo’s or life ?

R. I usually work from good quality photograph’s, this provides me with a accurate image source and gives me a chance to produce a very accurate and factual illustration or painting. I would prefer multiple photo’s if possible not just the one of maybe how you would want the image to look like. This in turn also helps to keep my prices reasonable and realistic ?.
